About Us

Welcome to Muddy Boots Day Nursery! I'm Chelene Lillywhite, the owner and manager, bringing over 20 years of experience in the Childcare sector to our new nursery. I'm passionate about outdoor learning for Early Years children, it's a wonderful time for them to explore nature and spend time outside. This enables them to develop confidence, resilience and a sense of wonder about the world. While much of their education over the years will be classroom-based, at Muddy Boots Nursery we're dedicated to delivering a curriculum centred around nature. Additionally, we offer an indoor space designed to inspire creativity in a fun environment.

I have two boys of my own and along with my husband Martin, and our dog called Ollie we spend a lot of time outdoors—whether it's going on dog walks or tending to our allotment where we grow fruits and vegetables. Our family's love for nature extends into every aspect of our lives, and we're excited to share that passion with the children at Muddy Boots Nursery.

We're in the heart of Horndean village, based at Merchistoun Hall. The building has so much character and history, its a Grade II Listed Building located in four acres of beautiful wooded grounds. It has played a pivotal role in the shaping of the village of Horndean over the last two centuries. The former manor house of Sir Admiral Charles Napier was built in 1745.

Merchistoun has retained its old charm as a community building. Muddy Boots is located upstairs with a large play room that has plenty of natural light. We have our own garden space as well as the rest of the land to explore including the pond and woodland trails. We're a small 20 place nursery, that offers a fun and nurturing environment.
